Being Sick and Hamilton Corruption

Sorry for the lack of post and updates on Hamilton's art scene, I've been sick basically for the last couple of weeks. I missed the art crawl and a lot of other things. Sounds like the crawl went well and the next one is Novemeber 10th. I also got a chance to show a friend some spots in Hamilton. But what I really want to focus on is Corruption in Hamilton!!!

First read this http://www.hamiltonspectator.com/NASApp/cs/ContentServer?pagename=hamilton/Layout/Article_PrintFriendly&c=Article&cid=1161985813732

It talks about all the companies that owe back taxes to Hamilton, its in total a million dollars, and now they're going to give them more money to renovate/ build new properties to owe taxes on! Now they could have used it for many causes, healthcare, literacy programs, etc. I find it very ironic, if the city was smart it would take a five hundred thousand dollars, divide it up with the smaller galleries/theatre groups in the form of grants to either hire a person for a year (mainly students or at risk youth) or for specialized programs or visiting artists projects. Why? Every dollar spent on the arts brings two dollars back! This is not conjecture its been documented numerous times. Imagine if this past summer's Hamilton Outdoor Art Show had some money to promote itself to toronto and the outlining areas? Imagine if Transit Gallery could hire a student to learn to do framming and by extension how to run a bussiness? Or heck even a Hip Hop Graphitti Festival ? (The one in Toronto drew 40,000 people and probably put at least a hundred thousand dollars into the local economy). I could go on and on but the main point is these non-profits cost pennies compaired to these tax dodgers and they actually give something back and attract people to the city. Well I hope everyone remembers this when its time to vote.

Guelph, Silkscreening, Hammers

Ok so this weekend for me was strange, Saturday was spent mainly fixing up the silkscreen room in the basement of the PrintStudio, with most of the work being done by a family from parts unknown or westdale but who knows. Anyone who wants to help I think this saturday will be another day of fun/ work if that even makes sense? Basically the quicker we finish the more fun stuff we can do.

This is the stuff we're doing basically sealing the walls before we paint/ do other stuff.

Guelph - Monday I went to guelph, got there way too late on a holiday monday, but did find some great places, the place I have to go back and really check out is Cornerstone, nice chill atomsphere, good coffee/ good food. here is the link to the location, call them at 519-827-0145 for directions.

Guelph is one of those cities I'd love to live in for a summer, I definity will be going there some more before the snow hits!!

T Shirt Madness

Wow what a day!!! It's good to break from the norm, now and then, today a couple of people set about printing some tshirts, a rag tag collection if you will. Basically barely any organization, just a idea and a idea. All went well considering only Matt MacInness knew anything about silkscreening. So here's a glimpse of what you missed.

Doug acting crazy with his newly printed shirt ! (Matt MacInnes design, if you want one ask Mixed Media to get you one from Matt!)

Matt acts as quality control, teacher and all over nice guy. Thanks Matt you made the day go easy!

Oh also I just found out today that in the basement of Blue Angle Gallery will be another gallery featuring mainly outsider art!!
