Lazy August

Ok I am the first to admit it but I have been super lazy this August, I am trying to get back into the good patterns I had before..... I am going to get reorganized for September!!! I swear. I think most people on James are saying the same thing. (I am hoping the recent rash of brutal violence in Hamilton has stopped, yes Toronto you still have more but Hamilton isn't use to it, I am refering to someone getting killed with a Hammer and a 13 or so year old kid beaten to death, oh and someone gone missing under suspicious circumstances. ) Sorry to get all serious but its a city I love. So anyways..... I am hoping also to get the james street site, more automated/ allow the gallery people to be able to put in there own stuff. So if you know how to program, please send me a email! Well I have to goto bed, I went to a metal show at the Underground, (bands-Bury Your Dead, Walls of Jericho and some others, I only saw the last bit but still good).

Oh one last thing the Hamilton Mayor just recently admitted/ plead guilty to numerous election law things, the Hamilton Spectator feels its not a bad thing and the Mayor has had his hand slapped and that's good enough but I personally think he should be banned from office.  Oh and Hamilton Spectator Shame on you.

I'm Depressed

Ok so first off I have to say Hamilton has been a little disapointing as of late, first Saturday I get a traffic ticket, then I hear people were shooting guns in the James st. public housing area and recently a friend who lives in the Portuguese area had his house broken into. (Now of course the shooting is the big thing.) Lister Block probably going down, the Inc not getting funding to buy their building. It's wierd or is Hamilton wanting to become Toronto's ghetto? I don't know what to say. Maybe its because so many positive things have been happening in Hamilton's art scene, its wednesday so maybe this is Hamilton's wednesday too aka hump day. I just hope for hamilton its not all down hill. Well I guess the only answer is to attack this with the positive, more events like the Hamilton Outdoor Art Show are definetly needed! Anyone with a good ideas please send them to me! I think Hamilton's art community/Hamilton needs a quartley event to get excited about.  Oh one last depressing thing Douglas Drake still hasn't updated his blog, look at it here.

Haha that ones to cheer myself up!

Hamilton Outdoor Art Exhibition
Saturday Aug. 12th 11am - 6pm

Taking place behind Mixed Media on Saturday, Aug. 12th and open and free for all to attend. The HOAE is a gathering of arts and culture with a hearty nod to the urban built environment that surrounds us. The parking lot behind the shop will magically be transformed into a courtyard filled with music, art, activities, demonstrations and most importantly, people. We believe the missing link in downtown renewal is places for people to meet and mingle. Art plays an important part in the rediscovery of our forgotten spaces and the HOAE is the first step in Mixed MediaÕs commitment to supporting the linking of the two. We invite the entire city to stroll down James Street North and happen upon arts, culture and excitement in a most unlikely space, our parking lot.

The HOAE will include:

Artist Village Show & Sale featuring: Rosemary Travale, Chelsea Treahy, Sapphire Singh, Rebecca Duyzer, Jessica Vellenga, artists from the Imperial Cotton Centre and more!

This Week in Hamilton

Hmmm where to begin? Ok first the heat is crazy hot, I have to acknowledge it.  I had vacation last week so I rode my bike everywhere and also did a bunch of time at the Printstudio.  Highlights included meeting new people such as Kriss Foster a kick ass comic maker and a pretty good singer too, check out his my space page here www.myspace.com/krissfoster

He's in Hamilton for the summer and Hamilton appreciates it. Junior Boys played Pepper Jacks this past saturday which was nice, tons of people I knew went to the show. As for Hamilton art scene, pretty much two events I am waiting to hear about, Loose Cannon Ninja show and August 12 Mixed Media's Art Show/ Sale in the parking lot behind the store!!!

Hopefully the weather won't be as crazy hot that day! Oh and next Art Crawl is August the 11th!!!!

See you then!
